The Paul Green Foundation's Paul Green Playwrights Fellowship proposals are now being accepted. The amount of the grant is $4,000 and the project period is January 1, 2012 to December 31, 2012. Submissions are accepted after January 1st; the deadline for application is October 1, 2011.

The Paul Green Foundation was established in 1982. Its mission is to foster work in the areas of Paul Green's chief concerns - the arts and human rights. North Carolina's Dramatist Laureate was born in 1894 and during his long life, produced a large body of plays, novels, short stories, screen plays, poetry and essays. Paul Green believed in equal opportunity for men and women of all races and especially the disadvantaged, and he championed human and civil rights' issues throughout his life. Many of his literary works dealt with issues of social justice and several provoked reform such as with the writing of "Hymn to the Rising Sun." Paul Green was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in Drama in 1927 for In Abraham's Bosom that appeared on Broadway.

The Foundation awards the following grants during the year for arts and human rights projects: National Theatre Conference Emerging Artist Award, Institute of Outdoor Drama Seminars in Theatre Production, Paul Green Playwrights Fellowship, Paul Green Award Recognizing Efforts to Abolish the Death Penalty in N.C., Human Rights Grants, and other awards in the area of human rights.

The necessary forms to complete the Playwrights Fellowship application can be found below. The form is currently in Word for Windows format; should you need a hard copy sent, please do not hesitate to contact us at the address on the left. Note that the application requires additional materials to accompany it, and cannot be emailed to the Foundation. Incomplete applications or those postmarked after the deadline of OCTOBER 1, 2011, will not be considered.

Recipients will be notified in November 2011 and payment will be made after January 1, 2012.

We look forward to receiving a proposal from you.
